Making disaster preparedness accessible through language and storytelling
As part of WRITE Initiatives’ commitment to inclusive, creative education, we are proud to host the Hindi translations of selected books from the COPE Disaster Champions series.
COPE Disaster Champions is a global initiative that uses illustrated storytelling to introduce children aged 6–12 to disaster risk reduction (DRR). Through relatable characters, simple language, and engaging narratives, the series equips children with the knowledge and confidence to understand hazards, stay safe, and support others in their communities
Our work on these Hindi translations reflects WRITE Initiatives’ broader intention: to remove language and access barriers that often prevent critical information from reaching children and families in vulnerable contexts. By making these resources available in Hindi, we aim to extend the reach of COPE’s mission within India’s Hindi-speaking regions, supporting educators, parents, and community organisations in building disaster awareness from an early age.
We are also translating these resources into Indian languages.
Through initiatives like this, WRITE Initiatives continues to work towards a more empathetic, informed, and disaster-resilient society, where knowledge is shared in languages people live and think in.
If you’d like to integrate the COPE Disaster Champions resources into your classrooms, workshops, or community programmes, or explore translations, storytelling workshops, or other collaborations, we’d love to hear from you.
